PENGU price has dropped despite Pudgy Penguins’ comic debut as token unlock weighs on sentiment

PENGU has extended its decline after the launch of Pudgy Penguins’ first physical comic book series, with the token slipping toward key support as profit-taking and weak technical indicators have outweighed enthusiasm around the brand’s latest product expansion.

The token has failed to hold its pre-launch gains, trading around $0.00587 on July 29 after briefly climbing to nearly $0.00612 a day earlier before sellers regained control.

The pullback has left PENGU down about 0.7% over the past 24 hours, while losses have widened to roughly 6.4% over the past week, according to CoinGecko data.

The token remains almost 86% below its level from a year ago despite continued efforts by the Pudgy Penguins team to expand the brand beyond its NFT roots.

PENGU price falls as multiple headwinds outweigh comic launch

Pudgy Penguins described the comic book as its first serialized storytelling project, designed to bring new audiences into its ecosystem through both physical and digital experiences.

Each issue includes scannable features that unlock digital collectibles and traits inside Pudgy World, allowing readers to connect printed content with the project’s browser-based virtual ecosystem.

According to the project, the comic is also intended to introduce people unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies or NFTs to the Pudgy Penguins universe through traditional publishing.

Although the release was positioned as another step in the brand’s consumer strategy, the token’s price moved in the opposite direction.

One of the biggest factors behind the decline has been what market participants commonly describe as a sell-the-news reaction.

Traders accumulated PENGU ahead of the comic release, but once the product became available, many locked in profits, adding selling pressure just as buying interest slowed.

The decline has also coincided with a scheduled token unlock that released roughly $4 million worth of PENGU into circulation.

The additional supply increased the number of tokens available for trading, creating fresh pressure on prices as demand struggled to absorb the newly unlocked allocation.

Another issue weighing on sentiment is the limited connection between merchandise sales and token economics.

Revenue generated from physical products supports Pudgy Penguins’ business operations, licensing efforts, and continued intellectual property development.

However, the project has not tied comic book sales to automatic token buybacks or burn mechanisms, meaning higher retail sales do not immediately translate into additional on-chain demand for PENGU.

Some investors have therefore continued treating the comic launch as a positive development for the brand while remaining cautious about the token’s short-term outlook.

Earlier developments within the ecosystem have added to that caution.

Yield Guild Games recently shut down its Play division and retired gaming titles connected to Pudgy Penguins, removing one of the ecosystem’s transactional use cases.

The loss of those gaming integrations has reduced token utility and left PENGU more exposed to the broader weakness across the altcoin market.

PENGU price technical analysis

PENGU has remained pinned near its monthly lows after failing to hold the rally that followed the comic book launch, leaving sellers in control of the short-term trend.

The token briefly climbed to around $0.00612 on July 28 before the advance quickly faded.

Each recovery attempt since then has produced a lower high, while another wave of selling pushed the token back toward $0.00583 before it stabilized near $0.00587.

The daily Fibonacci structure shows buyers have not reclaimed the first meaningful resistance level after the recent decline. See below.

PENGU continues trading below the 0.236 retracement at roughly $0.00598, keeping the latest rebound from developing into a sustained recovery.

Above that level, additional resistance stands near $0.00617 at the 0.382 retracement, followed by $0.00632 at the 0.5 level and approximately $0.00646 at the 0.618 retracement.

A stronger recovery would then have to clear resistance around $0.00668 before retesting the previous swing high near $0.00694.

As long as price remains below the first Fibonacci barrier, traders are likely to view rebounds as opportunities to reduce exposure rather than the beginning of a new uptrend.

On-Balance Volume has continued trending lower since its peak earlier this year, showing that buying pressure has weakened even during intermittent price recoveries.

The indicator has flattened over recent sessions, but it has yet to produce a sustained turn higher that would point to renewed accumulation.

The long-term trend also remains under pressure because PENGU is trading below every major exponential moving average on the daily chart.

The token sits beneath the 20-day EMA near $0.00615, the 50-day EMA around $0.00648, the 100-day EMA close to $0.00707, and the 200-day EMA near $0.00869.

The alignment of those averages continues to favor sellers, with the shorter-term EMAs positioned below the longer-term averages and no bullish crossover visible.

Daily momentum has also weakened after recent recovery attempts lost strength.

The Relative Strength Index is hovering around 42, remaining below the neutral 50 mark while staying above oversold territory.

The RSI has also slipped below its signal average, indicating bullish momentum has faded rather than strengthened.

Taken together, the indicators continue to favor caution.

Holding above the recent low around $0.00569 could allow PENGU to consolidate before another recovery attempt, but a decisive break below that support would expose the token to another leg lower as sellers look for fresh downside.

For buyers to regain control, PENGU would first need to reclaim the Fibonacci resistance near $0.00598 and then push through the $0.00617-$0.00646 region.

Clearing that range would also place the price back above the 20-day EMA, improving the short-term technical outlook, while a move beyond the 50-day EMA would provide stronger confirmation that momentum is beginning to recover.
